Launching eTIC4Food, a project on horticultural traceability

Four Andalusian entities related to agrifood and TIC sectors, Technology CenterTecnova, Grupo Caparros, Hispatec and PITA Almería, have presented a new common project focused on horticultural traceability, it has been formally defined as an EIP-AGRI Operational Group. Its main objective is to connect producer and consumer through labels with relevant information on how to produce, market, company, etc.

This initiative will create an ICT tool for smart labeling of sustainable fruit and vegetable production, specifically tomato cherry and watermelon. The representatives of the project aim to apply this technology to additional horticultural products.

eTIC4Food promoters agree that smart labeling develops a "fingerprint". Consequently, it is possible to follow the route of fruit and vegetable products throughout the entire value chain. Also providing information on aspects such as food safety, sustainability and quality.

The data will be integrated into a platform in real-time. This favors the exchange of information between the producer and the consumer. Thus, dynamic traceability can be created.

The smart tag will be also equipped with NFC technology and QR codes. These elements allow the reading and translation of the information in a simple way.
